Face grain is a beautiful option for contertop although not ideal for heavy chopping. Face grain boards are perfect for serving and light cutting tasks. Face grain boards are typically ~3/4” thick meaning they are significantly lighter than edge or end grain boards. offers a good balance between durability and knife friendliness. While not as self-healing as end grain, face grain surfaces are an excellent choice for everyday kitchen use. All our domestic lumber is sustainably grown in the Hudson Valley.
